Other Projects

In addition to providing greener solutions for stand-alone building projects, SDC offers a variety of services for projects of a broader or more generalized nature.  Over the years, SDC has worked on over 50 projects in this additional category, which includes the above recent examples within the following overall areas of consulting:

LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND)

Transit station and military project consulting

Term contracts

Master plan sustainability consulting services

Portfolio ESG and climate risk assessments

Existing building and energy audits

District Wharf Phase 1, Washington, DC
District Wharf Phase 1, Washington, DC: This $2 billion redevelopment across a 22-acre property includes 3.2 million sf of mixed-use space along DC’s southwest waterfront. Over the course of several years, SDC provided the developer, Hoffman & Associates, with feasibility assessments, LEED Process Management, and technical consulting under LEED-ND. With Phase 1 complete in 2019, the project was pre-certified as a LEED-ND Plan at the Gold Level, to be collectively certified as a Built Project as Phase 2 is completed.
Universities at Shady Grove Parking Garage #2, Rockville, MD
Potomac Yard Metro Station, Alexandria, VA: This $300 million, 22,224 sf WMATA transit station was designed by Arup completed in May 2023 by Potomac Yard Constructors. A unique green building project type, the newly opened facility was featured on one of the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo tours later that same year. SDC provided Documentation Assistance to the construction team and helped achieve Gold-level certification under the pilot LEED for Transit Stations rating system in December 2024.
Virginia National Guard Headquarters / Reserve Center, Richmond, VA: This 104,607 sf center designed by Pond & Company supports training, administrative, and logistical operations for the Virginia Department of Military Affairs. The building features a high-albedo roof, low-flow plumbing, and an energy-efficient envelope. Ninety percent of regularly occupied spaces have a direct line of sight to the outdoors. SDC provided Process Management and Energy Modeling, and the project achieved LEED-NC Gold-level certification in 2018.
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Term Contract, Richmond, VA
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Term Contract, Richmond, VA: Between 2010 and 2020, SDC held consecutive, five-year term contracts with VCU to provide direct sustainability consulting services. Tasks completed therein included project reviews and analyses, development of operational plans, a proposed building upgrade Net Zero Energy feasibility assessment, and LEED for Operations + Maintenance consulting on the exiting Physical Plant Department facility (pictured above).
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens (VMG) Village Master Plan Update, Miami, FL: In 2024, SDC supported Beyer Blinder Belle’s efforts to guide VMG through a process to understand resiliency and sustainability options and costs/benefits and to define goals for the Master Plan Update. SDC prepared presentations on benchmarking options, provided overview information on possible sustainable design certification programs, and helped narrow down which specific actions to study for inclusion in the Master Plan Update.
Florida Gateway Industrial Portfolio ESG Assessments: In 2025, Atlas engaged SDC to provide the ‘environmental’ component of ESG assessments to support due diligence for a ten-property industrial portfolio across Florida, focusing on energy and water efficiency/savings, decarbonization, and climate resiliency measures. After gathering and analyzing the information, SDC provided recommendations prioritized as high, medium, or low based on considerations such as energy/water/emissions savings and cost to implement/ROI.
Fort Scott Housing Authority Energy Audits, Fort Scott, KS: In 2025, SDC completed ASHRAE Level II energy audits on ten sites, encompassing 190 dwelling units and 53 buildings. During site visits, SDC assessed a sampling of energy and water using systems for age and efficiency, then compiled and analyzed the information, along with provided utility data. SDC then developed tailored energy efficiency measures for each site, which would result in nearly $8,000 in annual energy and water savings if all measures were installed.
