Responsibilities
The Research Assistant provides a wide variety of technical, project, and general support functions to project and operational staff in a fast-paced, specialized, and focused environment. Depending upon level, the Research Assistant may also serve in the capacity of ‘project consultant’ on one or more projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should have a Bachelors’ degree in and some experience in architecture, interior design, architectural engineering, facilities management, construction management, or other fields related to the building industry. Candidates must have a basic familiarity with and strong interest in green building and general sustainability in the built environment. Candidates must have strong technical skills and be proficient in reading architectural drawings. Candidates must demonstrate strong initiative, flexibility, communication, organizational and time management skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate ability to achieve the LEED Green Associate credential within six months of the day of employment, if not already accredited.
Additional Qualifications
Candidates may also have experience in any of the green building standards with which SDC currently works, including but not limited to: DC Green Codes, ENERGY STAR, Guiding Principles for High Performance Sustainable Buildings, Fitwel, Green Communities Criteria, Green Globes, International Green Construction Code, LEED Green Building Rating System, LEED Zero, Living Building Challenge, Net Zero Energy Buildings, Parksmart Certification, SITES, and the WELL Building Standard. Daylight modeling, energy modeling, whole building life-cycle analysis, or other building analysis skills are a plus, as are graphic design and advanced MS Office productivity software skills.
