Two years after attaining its original JUST label, SDC has now been labeled under JUST v2.0, reflecting the program’s updated criteria and SDC’s updated performance measured against that criteria. The LEED Rating System recognizes the contribution of JUST labeling toward earning a pilot credit for Social Equity Within the Project Team.

SDC as a firm was honored by Viridiant as the recipient of its 2019 Visionary Award! Given only to the “organization or individual who has shown outstanding leadership in sustainable buildings/communities”, the award recognizes excellence in Energy Efficiency, Integrated Design, Resource Efficiency / Conservation, Resiliency, Innovation and Community Impact.

The International Living Future Institute launched JUST as a social justice transparency platform in 2013 to provide socially just and equitable organizations with voluntary disclosure tool, resulting in a two-year certification and “nutrition” label. SDC attained JUST labeling to both disclose and optimize its policies that improve social equity and enhance employee engagement.

SDC was recognized by GBCI as a LEED Proven Provider for the Building Design and Construction rating system family. This designation was developed to streamline the LEED project review process for experienced organizations that demonstrate consistent excellence in administering LEED projects.

SDC was honored by Virginia Sustainable Building Network (VSBN) as 2011 Best Green Business! VSBN (now merged into Resilient Virginia) was a statewide organization that brought together representatives from diverse sectors who were interested in building energy-efficient, healthy, environmentally friendly buildings and sustainable communities.

USGBC National Capital Region Chapter honored SDC as 2010 Designer/Consulting Firm of the Year! This award was given to celebrate SDC’s work in developing USGBC and AIA education, extensive internal green policies and advanced employee professional development, along with prolific support of Washington, DC-area green building projects.

James River Green Building Council (now merged into USGBC Virginia) recognized SDC with its 2006 Green Building Leadership Award, Private Sector Category! SDC was the only firm in the private sector recognized for its “many contributions to greening the built environment both in Virginia and nationally”.
