- The Fort at Williams College, Williamstown, MA: This renovation of an existing 12,875 sf building takes campus sustainability to new heights, achieving both LEED Gold-level certification in 2021 and LBC Petal certification in 2022. Designed by MCWB Architects and built by A/Z Corporation, it houses graduate students in Fine Arts, while championing low energy use intensity and non-toxic materials.
- 1717 Innovation Center, Richmond, VA: Designed by SMBW, this 40,000 sf adaptive reuse of a 100-year-old, heavy-timber tobacco warehouse now provides shared office space for the city’s entrepreneurial community as part of a program sponsored by Capital One. This multi-award-winning project successfully maintains the historic character of the building and achieved LEED Silver certification in 2021.
- Overlook at Monarch Mills, Columbia, MD: The new development by Grimm + Parker rejuvenated this affordable housing community. SDC provided Green Communities process management for the residences as well as LEED-NC Gold-level process management for the clubhouse. It also won Best Large Affordable Housing Project from the 2013 Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers Housing.
- R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center, Washington, DC: This 14,600 sf adaptive re-use project designed by Cunningham Quill Architects converted a chapel on the St. Elizabeth’s campus into an innovation hub to support and showcase technology-related businesses. Construction was complete in 2014 and the project exceeded the LEED goal of Silver by achieving LEED-NC Gold-level certification in October 2016.
- 1701 Rhode Island Avenue, Washington, DC: Hickock Cole’s design converted what was once a YMCA facility into 98,565 sf of Class A office space wtih a naturally-lit fitness center, penthouse conference facility, and landscaped roof terraces. This adaptive reuse project achieved more than 30% energy savings, more than 40% water savings, and achieved LEED Platinum-level certification in May 2019.
- Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, Richmond, VA: Designed by Steven Holl with Quinn Evans, this new 40,890 sf space provides galleries, reception, and classrooms. In addition to LEED process management, SDC provided extensive daylight modeling for this uniquely shaped building, which achieved both LEED Gold certification and AIA Virginia’s Excellence in Architecture Merit Award in 2018.
- Powell Elementary School Modernization, Washington, DC: Designed by IStudio Architects, this 61,500 sf renovation of and addition to an existing two-story elementary school building was completed in April 2017. SDC provided LEED Gold-level process management services for this project, which earned both the Sustainability Award and the Design Excellence Award from AIA DC in 2019.
